Holiday Greetings and Upcoming Tour Announcement

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I would like to wish everyone much happiness, health, peace and joy during this Holiday Season.

I'll be spending the holidays with family and friends.  I always look forward to this time of year - the baking, the cooking, the parties and the rituals. However you celebrate, I wish you the very best, and truly want to thank you for your support.

One bit of exciting news:  in January and February I'll be going on tour with the amazing singer/songwriter Martin Sexton!  Check out his website and his music - I think this is going to be great fun and I'm really looking forward to being on the road!

I'll be posting tour dates and locations next week, so be sure to check back and see if I'm going to be in a city near you!  Please let me know if you are coming to any of the gigs,  I would love to hear from you.

Keep on Going!

Joanna

Radio Airplay, Upcoming Tour, Delta Airlines, Italy and Thankfulness

Happy Thanksgiving!

I can't believe it is Thanksgiving already!  What a year this has been.  I have a great deal to be thankful for and I'm counting my blessings for friends, fans, musicians, DJs and listeners like you who support me and my music.

My latest single  "Like I'm Leaving"  is holding strong at over 100 radio stations across the country -  from Georgia to Oklahoma to North Dakota!  We continue to add new stations every week.  I'm grateful!

Since we've had so much success on Country radio, we're planning on releasing another track from the CD in the next few months. It's going to be the duet, "Where Does Good Love Go" with a surprise duet partner, who I'll announce in the near future.  SO make sure you are following this Blog, or my Facebook Fan Page or my Website  or Twitter - you won't want to miss this announcement!

If you travel often and you don't already have me programmed into your iPod - just bring your headphones along.on your next Delta Airlines flight and you can listen to me on their Hello Music Independent Channel.  I'll be singing on all national and international flights starting in January.  They are featuring the song "Keep On Going" and you will even hear me introducing the song and sharing some thoughts after the song.  I may have to plan a few trips myself, just to hear it!

Speaking of traveling, there are also some major tour plans in the works as I write this.  Again, stay tuned for details on when and where, more info coming very soon!

Among the many things I'm grateful for this holiday is the opportunity I had earlier this month to take a trip to Italy with friends and family.  We all had a great time. The leaves were changing in Tuscany and the hillsides and vistas were breathtaking.  We visited Florence, a city I love, and went to the Palazzo Strozzi for a new Art Exhibit featuring an amazing 16th century artist, Agnolo di Cosimo, known as Bronzino.

Check out this video for an overview of the Bronzino Exhibit.

Of course, we also went to some great restaurants (really, is there a bad one in Italy?) and visited some shoe stores. (How could I not?)  Apparently the fashion color this year is grey. Grey boots, shoes, pocketbooks, sweaters, scarves, jackets. They were everywhere and gorgeous!

As I said at the top, I have a lot to be thankful for this year: continued career success, wonderful family and friends, travel opportunities and much much more.
Thank you for your support - I wouldn't be able to "Keep On Going" without it!

CD Review - Pics from Towne Crier Gig - Listen to me as you fly around the world!

Hello everyone!

I hope this finds you enjoying a lovely fall.

I've got lots of news that I'm really excited to share with you!

First - check out this great review of my debut CD "Keep On Going" at Country Stars Online: http://www.countrystarsonline.com/CSO/reviewarchives/2010/JoannaMosca_CB.htm

Gig at The Towne Crier Cafe

As many of you know I had a gig a couple of weeks ago at a wonderful club in New York called The Towne Crier.  It is a legendary music room and I loved playing there.  It was my first time doing the songs from the CD live with a full band.  I felt like I was sending my babies out into the world :)   It is an entirely different experience performing live (as opposed to in the studio) - and the adrenaline rush, rocking out with my amazing band, and hearing the songs come to life in a live context was just amazing.  Oh, and hearing the audience's enthusiastic response was pretty exciting too!  I felt like it was one of those rare moments when everything comes together.  Thanks to all of you who were there, in person and in spirit!

Upcoming gig, Sept 25th and Tour highlights!!

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great summer!
These past few months have been pretty exciting and I’d like to share some of the highlights with you.

I’ve just completed my 30 city national radio tour in support of my most recent single, “Like I’m Leaving,” which is currently being played by nearly 100 radio stations across the country, and is rocketing up the Country and AC charts! In addition, my first single, “Keep on Going,” recently cracked the Top 30 on the Adult Contemporary/ Mediabase and R&R charts. (Those are the Major Market stations!) At the end of this column are pics and more fun details from my tour!

Also this summer I launched an iPhone app which includes music, links, updates, and upcoming tour info. My label, “Dolce Diva Music” announced an iPad giveaway and the winner was a lucky fan from California!

After a hectic year of traveling, I am thrilled to announce my upcoming show, September 25, 2010 at the Towne Crier Café in Pawling, NY. Also appearing will be the famous jazz guitarist, Leni Stern. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and can be purchased at www.townecrier.com. They serve dinner, and the food is quite good and they’re known for their wonderful desserts! ( FYI- If you reserve for dinner as well as the show, you get priority seating.) More info including menus and directions are on the website.

Highlights from my Country Radio Station Tour
Late August
Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri

It was a whirlwind tour and I had a blast!
I performed at 15 radio stations in 15 cities across the three states.

Frumpy Joe's Cafe
In Jonesburg, MO- Went to Frumpy Joe's Cafe- GREAT biscuits and sausage gravy. Visited Jonesburg Historic Museum and saw a slave cabin from 1837 which had been on Tobacco Farm and moved to museum site. This is a link to an interesting article about the Architecture students who rebuilt the cabin.

In Butler, MO saw the Ripley's World's smallest Tombstone. 2 X 2 ½ inches!! It was for the grave of an Indian Princess.

LOVED Kansas City, MO- Great shops, restaurants, museums. I really enjoyed Manhattan, Kansas. It’s called the "Little Apple" :) Home to KSU and Ft. Riley.

This was my first trip to OK- and I saw my first oil well. There were lots of them!!  We travelled portions of the original RT 66. Fun!  And we visited the original Lucille's, which is longer open, but had been a gas station since 1929.   Lucille bought it in 1949 and made it famous.  She was called "the mother of the mother road."  She had many famous singers stop there on their way to gigs. She has all their signatures and memorabilia in a scrapbook she saved. (It's in the museum there – very cool stuff - lots of history.)

We ate at the Rock Cafe-(Also on RT 66 in OK) built in 1939 from the rocks that were unearthed during the building of RT 66.
Another interesting thing about The Rock Café is that John Lasseter stopped there as he was traveling RT 66 searching for inspiration for his then upcoming movie, "Cars". (He wrote and directed it.) The owner of the cafe, Dawn, became the inspiration for the character, Sally in the movie. (Sally was the Porsche in the movie!) Lots of fun "Cars" memorabilia there, great food, and absolutely the best Fried Green Tomatoes on the trip (I was doing my own personal survey:)

Next stop was Stillwater, OK. Visited OSU. Great campus. Lunch that afternoon was at the original Eskimo Joe's (To die for apple pie)!

Then on to Woodward, OK- a very rural part of OK. This is dust bowl country. The town was leveled, and many died in 1947 from a tornado. Lots of history on this trip. We had dinner at the Pollyanna Cafe. Great fried chicken!!

The last stop on tour was Oklahoma City. What a great city! We saw the Oklahoma City Museum and Memorial. The Field of Empty Chairs was a very moving site. Very powerful. I really enjoyed the area called Bricktown. This area used to be old warehouses but has been converted to restaurants, bars, shops and even has a baseball stadium. A lovely canal runs through it and we took fun canal cruise after dinner one evening.

Great ending to a great trip!

Till next time,

Joanna

SO Much Happening Now!

Tour Journal of Country Radio Tour Aug. 9-13 -2010
Whew – August is being a busy month – and I’m thrilled about that!

To hear my latest single, "Love Me Like I'm Leaving" and view pics of my tour click on this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5zhD-_r3IA

I’m currently on tour in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma – check the end of this blogpost for specific details!

But first, a recap of my tour earlier this month!

I did interviews and live performances at 13 radio stations in Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky over a five day period. We drove through all those states plus Virginia!

What an interesting and beautiful part of our country. I saw some very interesting sites during this tour and met some great DJs who keep the music going!

One really fun place was Jamestown, TN, which is headquarters for the world's longest yard sale – called The l27 yard sale. http://www.127sale.com/  This is a 3 day event which takes place on HWY 127 spanning from Covington, Kentucky to Gadsden, Alabama. Over 500 miles of “junk”. attracts people from as far as Australia! Jamestown is also the home of the country's largest pumpkin. Their water tower is the shape and color of a pumpkin – I loved it!

Also loved Kingsport, TN. Took a walk on their Sculpture walk located downtown Kingsport. http://publicart.kingsporttn.gov/node/41

Kingsport is a great connection to the history of the South and is the home of the Wilderness Trail blazed by Daniel Boone in 1775. The trail starts in Kingsport, goes through Virginia and the Cumberland Gap and ends in Kentucky. This was the route for hundreds of thousands of settlers moving into the South from the western frontier.

Then, on to Alabama! We saw many beautiful lakes and forests. We visited Centre, Alabama - the Crappie Capital of the world! (That's a fish) http://www.markcollinsguideservice.com/home.html

I loved Huntsville Alabama, home to NASA. Saw the Space and Rocket museum (rockets and shuttle on display. very cool sight) http://www.spacecamp.com/museum/

Next was Florence, Alabama. Very rich in music history. I did a podcast at KIX 96 Country in Florence. This station is owned by the legendary Sam Phillips who founded Sun Records and "discovered" Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash and many others. Sam was the man who made blues and rock and roll accessible to the public. I had the great pleasure of meeting Sam's son, Jerry who now runs the radio station.

And speaking of music legends – my next stop was to Centerville, Tennessee – the birthplace of Minnie Pearl!! We ate at Breece's Café, which has been open since 1939. As luck would have it I met the democratic candidate for Governor of Tennessee, who was working in the kitchen that day (part of his campaign to meet local people!) His name is Mike McWherter and his Dad was the former Governor of Tennessee. I really liked him a lot!

Of course I have one good food related highlight to report: Fried Tomato Buffet in Ardmore, Tennessee. Scott and I think it ties our previous winner for Best Southern Buffet (The Country Store in Jackson, TN) The Country Store has more charm and is the larger buffet, but the Fried Tomato has the best pulled pork, fried catfish, and natch, fried green tomatoes!

Thanks and more to come after I complete this week’s tour in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma!

Joanna

Summer Vacation & Upcoming Country Radio Tour!

What a lovely summer I have been having!

I recently returned from an amazing European vacation and while rested and restored, I am excited for another Country Radio Station tour in the south! I’ll have more tour info in the next couple of days and will send that out ASAP! Most of the stations have a direct feed and you can listen to the interviews live via the internet!  I'm hitting Tennessee, including Nashville on this leg of the tour, along with Mississippi and Alabama. I’ll also be doing some gigs in the evening along with the radio interviews. Details to come SOON!

Bur first, I would like to share a sort of “mini-diary” of my wonderful vacation in Europe. We started out in Tuscany, which is truly one of my favorite places in the world. After our stay in Tuscany we went to Budapest, Vienna and Prague. This was my first visit to the last three cities and they were all very picturesque and quite interesting. I would describe Budapest as beautiful, Vienna as elegant, and Prague as charming and storybook-like.

Some specific highlights from each place:

Tuscany - Went to see the opera Don Giovanni which was held in an Eleventh century Abbey, The Abbey San Galgano The Abbey has no roof and seeing the opera in that setting under the stars was magical. Click on the link below to view photos and read historical information about the Abbey.

Budapest - Took a boat ride on the Danube River which, sadly, is no longer blue. We also walked by the filming of the Budapest American Idol auditions which were taking place in the park. Later that afternoon we walked by a large right wing extremist rally (skin heads) and also saw the swat team arriving in full gear. (We hightailed it out of there!)

Vienna - Saw Mozart's apartment, which occupied the entire top floor of a building. Check out this site for pics and more information http://www.wien-vienna.com/mozartapartment.php.
We ate Bratwurst and drank a delicious local beer, and of course had to stop in at one of their famous pastry shops before we left!

Prague - Went to a beautiful concert at St. Nicholas Church where Mozart used to play the organ. (The same organ was played at the concert we attended.) We also visited the Jewish ghetto/concentration camp, Terezin, outside Prague. Very moving and upsetting, especially to see all the children that were lost there. (They either died there or were shipped directly to Auschwitz where they perished.) Many of their drawings/artwork were on display. That was fascinating to me – to see that time thru the eyes of children expressing themselves thru art. Very, very moving.

Hope your summer is going great, and check in soon for more tour info!

Best,

Joanna

In May I did a gig in the Rose Club at The Plaza Hotel. I was a guest artist for Michael Fredo’s weekly event “Jazz and Cocktails” We sang the duet "Where Does Good Love Go" from my latest CD. It was a great night, great crowd and a really beautiful room to perform in. Check out the slideshow below for pics and to hear the duet!

It has been a very busy and exciting couple of weeks on the social front! I recently attended a fundraiser for my congressman John Hall, (formerly of the band, Orleans!) Richard Gere hosted the event at his restaurant The Bedford Post Inn. Vice President Joe Biden was there and I was really taken by what a wonderful charismatic speaker he is. At this event I got to chat with Stevie Van Zandt (Yay Bruce and the E Street Band!!) Mr. Van Zandt is a very cool guy, exactly like you'd expect him to be - very real, very down to earth. He's still got his Jersey accent and, of course, he was wearing the head scarf! I also chatted with Mike Richter, great Goalie for the New York Rangers. What a fun evening.

On the social front (meaning fun and relaxing!) I had a couple of great “girls getaway" weekends. First with some of my nursing friends – where there was lots of eating, drinking and gabbing! Then a weekend in NYC with my cousins. We went to the Broadway show "In the Heights" which was amazing, and then we went to see the latest "Sex in the City" movie, with cocktails before and after! Whew! Now I need to recover from all that relaxing!

Music wise there are many things coming up over the course of the summer, and I'll be sure to keep you posted. More song releases and another Country Radio Tour are planned for later in the summer.

Please check back with the blog, or Twitter or Facebook to stay current on all the many things happening with my music!

Thanks as always for your support!

Keep On Going!

Country Radio Tour in the South

Hello Blog Fans!

This post is chock full of info and videos!

Both videos in this blog are from my Country Radio Station tours. You will see me with numerous DJs , but you will also see pics with my Road Manager, Guitarist, Promoter and Tour Photographer Scott Jarman.

Scott is a songwriter/guitarist living and working in Nashville, originally from Indiana. We met about 5 years ago when we both were auditioning for the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville! We've stayed in touch over the years and played at several clubs together around Music City.

When I started planning this tour, and knew I would not only be doing interviews, but performing live, I immediately thought Scott would be a great partner. I was right!

In addition to the many hats Scott has worn during these tours - I told him his most important job was to find me healthy places to eat! This was no easy task and usually impossible, considering we were in mostly small Southern towns! We did manage to have a lot of great unhealthy Southern food that we totally enjoyed! And you will see a few pics of some of those amazing heart attack rendering meals in the video!

Scott did, however, find me a Red Lobster or two and an Applebee's where I could stick to my Weight Watcher plan!

Here's a typical day for me on the road:

Three, sometimes four stations a day, traveling 100's of miles in between, singing and chatting on live radio at all the stations.

By the time I reach the hotel late in the day, it is time for dinner, with a much needed glass of wine! After dinner is basically just collapsing in front of the TV until I fall asleep.

Next morning, up at 5AM, getting gussied up, packing up, checking out and on to the next station for a 7AM or 8AM interview and it starts all over again!!

The morning DJ’s were always so energetic and so darn happy and peppy! I pretended I was energetic and peppy too! (Hey, I was voted "Peppiest girl" in high school. Was I a cocker spaniel pup? What was that about?)

I found DJ’s to be smart and interesting people with, of course, amazing speaking voices. Some of them had been doing it all their lives and some had had other professions. Many had been musicians but I also met three former teachers/college professors who then became DJ’s. I think every DJ I met, LOVED what they did and it showed!

I certainly am lucky to be on this “road” and I hope you enjoy these two videos of my adventures!

My March Madness!

My March Madness!

In March, I went on my second Country Radio Station tour. I visited 10 cities in KY plus cities in VA and TN. It was great trip and I have fallen in love with the South all over again.

While traveling through Bristol, VA we drove along the "Crooked Road" where the first country song was recorded in 1928 by the Carter family. Check out www.thecrookedroad.org for more information on this fascinating and musical region of the South.

When you continue on the"Crooked Road" and cross into Eastern KY, the “Crooked Road” turns into "Country Music Highway" which is so named because of all the stars that were born along this stretch of road! Country music stars such as Patty Loveless, Loretta Lynn, Ricky Skaggs, Billy Ray Cyrus, The Judds and many more!

I absolutely LOVED KENTUCKY!!

Eastern KY is rural, rustic and beautiful in it’s own way – from the coal mines to the Appalachian Mountains.

Central and Western Kentucky have beautiful rolling hills and miles and miles of white fences surrounding the horse farms. Louisville is a fun, river city with lots of music venues and restaurants on the water.

I especially loved the capitol city of KY, Frankfort. Brick lined roads with great restaurants, bars and music venues. Went to a great Italian Restaurant there (believe it or not!) and also hit an Irish Pub. (It was St. Paddy's Day so lottsa fun!!)

I met wonderful people (Southern hospitality is alive and well) and the DJ's seemed to really like my music. I sang "Keep on Going", the new single, and "A Good Distraction" live at all the stations. Most of the stations reserved an hour for me to sing and chat, which was great exposure for me and my music
.
A couple of great food places in Kentucky are Bread of Life Cafe in Liberty, KY and Farm Boy Restaurant in Morgantown, KY (great burgers)!

On the way to Norton, VA, we passed the site of a Civil War Battle, "Battle of Jonesville". If you are a Civil War buff you can read more about this famous battle at http://www.bencaudill.com/documents_msc/jonesville/battle_of_jonesville.html

Now I’m finally back home and both exhausted and exhilarated. More and more stations are playing the single “Keep On Going” and we are getting great feedback from stations and from listeners!

Last weekend I performed with John Hall (of the band “Orleans”) at the Town Crier in New York. It was a great night of music! I performed songs from the new CD, "Keep on Going" and I got on stage with all the bands at the end of the night to sing "Lean on Me". The house was packed. and the audience seemed to have a blast! Jon Poussette-Dart from the Poussette-Dart String Band performed and Joe Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult performed some of his hits, "Don't Fear the Reaper", and “I'm Burning for You.” (He can still rock out on the guitar!). And John Hall sang a few, including his hit, "Dance with Me". He's an amazing guitarist and a great Congressman. (A man of high energy and many talents!)

That's it for now!

I'll be posting photos from this tour in a day or so!

Thanks, as always, for your support!

Keep on Going!

Hello All Blog Followers!

Wow – this snowstorm in the Northeast has really done some damage! We have been without power for two days, but we do have a generator, so that is something to be grateful for.

Now, on to the fun stuff! First off, check out my video montage of the first leg of my Country Radio Tour
http://www.onetruemedia.com/shared?p=a7390c46a3693184f3aec9&skin_id=1703

OK now that you are all caught up on the first leg of the trip via the montage, on to this week’s blog which is a recap of the second leg of my Country Radio Tour. I’m having such a good time travelling around the south and meeting some wonderful people. (and dining on some amazing Southern cuisine – details below).

MONDAY
We left Nashville in an ice storm. Fun driving! We hit 4 radio stations in TN. Busy day!

One of the stations was in Jackson, TN, home of Casey Jones, Carl Perkins (He wrote Blue Suede Shoes.) and the Rockabilly Museum. What a great place. I have a new favorite Southern Buffet recommended by the Jackson station DJ which is called the Old Country Store. Cracker Barrel fashioned their places after this one. http://www.caseyjones.com/OldCountryStore/index.html

The buffet was out of this world!! Fried chicken, baked beans, fried okra, potato pancakes, barbeque pork tenderloin, the best meatloaf I've ever had, stuffed peppers, biscuits/gravy, mac and cheese, sautéed collard greens, seafood gumbo, cornbread, catfish, fried chicken livers, etc, etc and an unbelievable salad bar and amazing desserts. Everything was homemade and right out of the oven or fryer! My mouth is watering as I write about it! And right next door was the Casey Jones museum with all the train stuff! We didn't have time to go inside the museum, but took photos of the outside which will be posted soon.

TUESDAY
Arkansas and Missouri stations today!

Blytheville, Arkansas is home to the largest Christmas light display in the mid South. They do it on the airfield of the military base every December. http://www.lightsofthedelta.com/

Blytheville is also the home town of John Grisham who sold his books out of the back of his car! (Before fame and fortune:)

We also hit a station in Kennett, Missouri, hometown of Sheryl Crow.

Traveled back to AR through the Ozarks. Beautiful scenery and lakes. Stayed in Harrison, AR and had dinner at a really cool hotel called the Hotel Seville. This hotel was built in 1900 and was built in Spanish design. Neat place (It looked so out of place in this small, Southern town!) and the only spot you could find alcohol in this dry county. (Of course I had to go there!) Great martinis!!

WEDNESDAY
Passed by some beautiful Caverns (wish I had time for a tour) Back in MO where we passed through Mansfield to see Laura Ingalls home where she wrote "Little House on the Prairie". Very small town and modest digs. Visited stations in both MO and AR today.

THURSDAY
Hit stations in Butler, Clinton and Mexico MO- Lots of farmland and cattle farms along the way. 3 great interviews at stations with 1/4 million listeners or more! People calling in requesting my song! I love it!!

FRIDAY
More MO stations and then back to Nashville, passing through Kentucky (Wish I had time to look around) Headed over the Mississippi River and the Missouri River. We're all over the place.

SATURDAY
Back home in New York. Time to catch up and be snow bound once again!

This past week- Monday-Thursday- I have spent most of my time catching up on emails and phone calls. Back at the gym BIG TIME! Got to work off that Southern FOOD!!! Headed to Cabo, Mexico this weekend with Mark to celebrate my birthday!! Perhaps warm weather!! FINALLY!!

What a week it has been! Shopping, beautifying, working out, working with my vocal coach, errands - all in prep to head South. I'll be performing live and doing interviews at radio and television stations throughout Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. I'm so excited!

"Keep on Going", the title track from my new CD, is getting lots of airplay, and I'm hoping this Country Radio tour keeps that going!

For up to date info please follow me on Twitter, www.twitter.com/JoannaMosca. I'll be tweeting from every state I visit. I also hope to post audio files of some of the interviews, so please check http://www.myspace.com/joannamosca, www.JoannaMosca.com as well as my Facebook Fan Page! You can also follow this blog – so many was to stay connected!

I will try very hard to stay away from all that good Southern food I love so much. No biscuits and gravy! (Well, maybe one little visit to the Cracker Barrel won’t hurt!) I hope all the hotels I'm staying in have gyms!

That's the update for now - thanks as always for your support!
